Container handling at Penang Port for the first quarter of 2011 recorded an encouraging growth of 5.3% compared to the same period last year. During the said period, the total container handled at Penang Port was 278,161 TEUs, compared to 264,060 TEUs in 2010.

The continuous increase since last year was due to the global economic recovery which resulted in the increase of both import and export cargo at Penang Port.
